Georgian soprano Salome Jicia makes her Royal Opera debut in the 2016/17 Season as Sifare (Mitridate, re di Ponto).
Jicia was born in Zugdidi. After training as a pianist she went on to study voice in Georgia and at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Rome, with Renata Scotto and at the Rossini Opera Academy with Alberto Zedda. Opera engagements including Elena (La donna del lago) and Contessa di Foleville (Il viaggio a Reims) in Pesaro, Aspasia (Mitridate, re di Ponto) for the State Opera House of Georgia and the Armel Opera Festival, Budapest, Rosina (La finta semplice) for Associazione Lirica Concertistica Italiana in Como, Cremona and Pavia, Semiramide at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall and for Opéra national de Lorraine and the International Opera Festival ‘Alejandro Granda’, Lima, and Donna Anna (Don Giovanni) in Liège. Her concert appearances include performing with José Carreras in Kutaisi, Georgia.
Jicia’s awards include the grand prix at the Istanbul International Music Festival and the International Singing Competition, Armenia, first prize at the Lado Ataneli International Singing Competition and first prize and the Maria Fołtyn Prize at the Ninth International Stanisław Moniuszko Vocal Competition.
