German dramaturg Ronny Dietrich made her Royal Opera debut in 2014 as the dramaturg for Die Frau ohne Schatten, directed by Claus Guth.
Dietrich was born in Frankfurt and learnt several instruments before studying musicology at Frankfurt University. She has worked as a dramaturg since 1981, initially for concert performances with Frankfurt Alte Opera (1981–5) and at the Vienna Konzerthaus (1985–90), and then as an opera dramaturg in Kiel (1990–93) and as chief dramaturg for Zürich Opera (1993–2012). Since summer 2012 she has worked as Head of Dramaturgy and Publications for the Salzburg Festival.
Dietrich works regularly with directors including Sven-Eric Bechtolf, Jürgen Flimm, Guth (including for productions at the Theater an der Wien, Salzburg Festival, Liceu, Barcelona and La Scala, Milan), Alvis Hermanis and Jens-Daniel Herzog.
