British mezzo-soprano Rebecca Lodge Birkebaek joined the Royal Opera Chorus in 2016. In the 2019/20 Season she sings Ensemble/French Mother (Death in Venice).
Lodge-Birkebaek studied at the Royal Academy of Music where she won the Lloyds Bank Scholarship for postgraduate performance. She is a former member of the BBC Singers, with which ensemble she appeared frequently as a soloist on recordings, in concerts and at the BBC Proms. She has performed at many of the world’s major concert halls. Her recent operatic appearances away from The Royal Opera include Anaide in Leoncavallo’s Zazà (Opera Rara and BBC Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican) and Newspaper Seller in Poulenc’s Les Mamelles de Tirésias (BBC Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican.
Lodge Birkebaek has been closely involved in music education for many years, running projects for the BBC Performing Groups and the King’s Singers among others.
