Biography

Sardinian tenor Piero Pretti makes his Royal Opera debut in the 2014/15 Season as the Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto).

Pretti studied with Fianni Mastino. He began his career in the chorus of the Teatro Lirico, Cagliari, and made his professional solo debut in 2006 as Rodolfo (La bohème). He began his career at the Pergolesi Opera House, Jeso, and the opera houses of Treviso and Sassari. Engagements now include Duke of Mantua, Riccardo (Un ballo in maschera), Rodolfo (Luisa Miller), Ismaele (Nabucco) and Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor) for La Scala, Milan, Duke of Mantua for Bavarian State Opera and Deutsche Oper Berlin and in Genoa, Arrigo (I vespri siciliani) in Naples and Turin, Alfredo Germont (La traviata) for Vienna State Opera, La Fenice, Venice, and in Turin and Padua, Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly) in Auckland and Manrico (Il trovatore) at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw.

Pretti sings widely in concert, engagements including Rossini's Stabat Mater on tour in Tokyo and a gala appearance at the Hermitage, St Petersburg.
