Peter Teigen

Lighting designer


Norwegian lighting designer and photographer Peter Teigen made his Royal Ballet debut in the 2015/16 Season, redesigning the lighting for Frederick Ashton’s The Two Pigeons and Rhapsody.

Teigen was born in Oslo and moved to the UK in 1983. He was lighting designer for London City Ballet during the 1990s, working with choreographers including Mark Baldwin, Christopher Gable and Galina Samsova, and as a freelance lighting designer for Matthew Bourne, Michael Corder and Ashley Page, among others. He regularly works for Birmingham Royal Ballet, on productions including David Bintley’s The Prince of the Pagodas. Engagements elsewhere include Peter Wright’s Swan Lake for Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires, and productions with New National Theatre, Tokyo, Australian Ballet Theatre and Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe.

Teigen is an established dance photographer and is regularly commissioned by companies including English National Ballet. As a portrait photographer he has captured subjects including HRH The Princess of Wales.
