Paul Schweinester

Biography

In the 2013/14 Season Austrian tenor Paul Schweinester makes his Royal Opera debut singing Brighella (Ariadne auf Naxos).

Schweinester was born and raised in Innsbruck, where he was a boy treble with the Wiltener Sängerknaben. He studied with Karlheinz Hanser in Vienna, at the Conservatorio di Musica Santa Cecilia in Rome and on the 2012 Young Singers Project at the Salzburg Festival. His first professional engagements were at the Tiroler Festspiele Erl, Wiener Festwochen and Reinsberg Festival. He was a member of Vienna Volksoper 2009–13, where his roles included Beppe (Pagliacci), Pedrillo (Die Entführung aus dem Serail) and Vašek (The Bartered Bride). Other engagements include singing in the world premiere of Cerha’s Onkel Präsident at the Prinzregententheater, Munich

Schweinester is also a keen concert singer, and makes regular appearances throughout Austria, including at the Vienna Konzerthaus, where he has sung Bach cantatas and Schumann’s Dichterliebe. Recordings include Bach’s Christmas Oratorio.
