Italian set designer Paolo Fantin made his Royal Opera debut in 2015 designing sets for Guillaume Tell, directed by Damiano Michieletto. He returns in the 2015/16 Season on Cavalleria rusticana/Pagliacci, directed by Michieletto.
Fantin studied at the Istituto d’Arte di Venezia and the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia, graduating in 2004 with a diploma in set design. Since 2007 he has worked regularly with Michieletto, their credits including Mozart’s Da Ponte operas for La Fenice, Venice, La scala di seta for Zürich Opera and La Scala, Milan, Il trittico for Royal Danish Opera and Theater an der Wien, Un ballo in maschera for La Scala, Madama Butterfly in Turin, Idomeneo for Theater an der Wien, La bohème, Falstaff and La Cenerentola for Salzburg Festival and Michael Daugherty's Jackie O for the Lugo Opera Festival and Teatro Comunale, Bologna. Fantin's other opera credits include The Little Sweep and Amahl and the Night Visitors for Teatro Sociale, Rovigo.
