Paolo Fantin

Set designer


Italian set designer Paolo Fantin made his Royal Opera debut in 2015 designing sets for Guillaume Tell, directed by Damiano Michieletto. He returned later in the year on Cavalleria rusticana / Pagliacci, directed by Michieletto. In the 2019/20 Season he designs sets for Michieletto’s production of Don Pasquale.

Fantin has worked regularly with Michieletto since 2017, their credits including Alcina, La bohème, Falstaff and La Cenerentola for Salzburg Festival, the world premiere of Perocco’s Aquagranda, Mozart’s Da Ponte operas, Macbeth, Roméo et Juliette and The Rake’s Progress for La Fenice, Venice, Rossini’s Otello, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Il trittico and Idomeneo for Theater an der Wien, Il barbiere di Siviglia in Valencia and Geneva and for Paris Opéra, Samson et Dalila for Paris Opéra, Cendrillon for Komische Oper Berlin, Rigoletto for Dutch National Opera, La Damnation de Faust, L’elisir d’amore and La scala di seta in Valencia, La donna del lago, La gazza ladra, Sigismondo and La scala di seta for the Rossini Opera Festival, Pesaro, Lucia di Lammermoor, Poliuto and Luisa Miller in Zürich, Der ferne Klang in Frankfurt, Die lustige Witwe for Rome Opera, Die Entführung aus dem Serail for Teatro San Carlo, Naples, Salome for La Scala, Milan, Der Rosenkavalier for La Monnaie, Brussels, and Die Zauberflöte in Florence.

Fantin’s theatre credits with Michieletto include Il ventaglio, The Government Inspector, Divinas palabras and Die Dreigroschenoper.
