American countertenor Nicholas Tamagna made his Royal Opera debut in 2015 as Hassan (Cities of Salt) in the Linbury Studio Theatre.
Tamagna studied at Manhattan School of Music and Hunter College, City University of New York. Engagements include Oronte (Riccardo Primo) for the Händel-Festspiele in Karlsruhe, Polinesso (Ariodante) for Theater Münster and Goffredo (Rinaldo) for operamission in New York City. He performs widely in concert, including as a solo recitalist with Philippe Maillard Production in Paris (‘Ayres and Prayers: The English Lute Song’), in Münster (‘Schurken und Narren: Opera Arias from Villains and Fools’) and in such venues as Carnegie Hall, Merkin Concert Hall and Avery Fisher Hall in New York, BOZAR in Brussels and the Opéra Royal de Versailles. His recordings include Sacabuche! Early Italian Motets, Arias and Duets for ATMA Classique and on DVD Spirit (Dido and Aeneas) for Poème Harmonique and the title role in Akhnaten for Orange Mountain Music.
Tamagna’s awards include first prize at the 2011 Nico Castel International Master Singer Competition.
