British musical director and collaborator, violinist and electronic musician Nell Catchpole made her Royal Ballet debut in 2015, co-composing the score for Hofesh Shechter’s Untouchable. Previous work at the Royal Opera House includes creating the score for Kate Tempest’s award-winning Brand New Ancients.
Catchpole has worked as a collaborator and musical director with Shechter since 2007, working on such pieces as In Your Rooms, Political Mother and Survivor. She has worked extensively with Brian Eno, arranging and recording strings on his solo albums, as well as with John Cale, U2 and many others. In 1995, she co-founded music/physical theatre company The Gogmagogs with theatre director Lucy Bailey, creating and touring seven shows of new work. She also created sound design and music for several of Bailey’s theatre productions, including Don’t Look Now for the Lyric Hammersmith.
In 2009 Catchpole was awarded a Philip Leverhulme Prize to develop her artistic practice. She is a tutor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
