Spanish tenor Mikeldi Atxalandabaso makes his Royal Opera debut in the 2019/20 Season as Beppe (Pagliacci).
Atxalandabaso performs regularly at the Teatro Real, Madrid, appearing as Bardolfo (Falstaff), Mime (Das Rheingold), Remendado (Carmen), Barbarigo (I due Foscari) and Monostatos (Die Zauberflöte). For the Gran Teatre del Liceu, Barcelona, he has sung Edmondo (Manon Lescaut), Steersman (Der fliegende Holländer) and Pong (Turandot), and at the ABAO, Bilbao, he has appeared as Joshe Mari (Mendi Mendiyan), Jaquino (Fidelio), Narraboth (Salome), Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore) and Brighella (Ariadne auf Naxos). Other appearances in Spain include Sebas (Zemlinsky’s Der König Kandaules) and Monostatos for the Teatro Maestranza in Seville, Bardolfo and Steersman in La Coruña and Schmidt (Werther) in Mallorca and Las Palmas.
Outside Spain, Atxalandabaso’s appearances include Jonas (Le Prophète) and Don Curzio (Le nozze di Figaro) for Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, Ruodi (Guillaume Tell) for Dutch National Opera, Dr Caius (Falstaff) with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Pong (Turandot) for the Teatro Regio, Turin, Goro (Madama Butterfly) for the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris and Spoletta (Tosca) for Salzburg Easter Festival. His concert appearances include Falla’s La Atlántida with the Spanish National Orchestra and Josep Pons.
