Michael Lessiter



English bass Michael Lessiter is a member of the Royal Opera Chorus, which he joined in 2001. His solo roles with The Royal Opera include Officer (Chérubin), Page (Roberto Devereux), part of Baron Ochs’ retinue (Der Rosenkavalier) and Gambler (The Gambler). In the 2015/16 Season he sings Servant (La traviata).

Lessiter studied music and drama at Leicester College of Education. He made his debut with D’Oyly Carte Opera Company and has gone on to sing for Opera North, Wexford Festival Opera, Dublin Grand Opera Society, Kent Opera and Opera della Luna. His European engagements have included performances for Opéra de Lyon, Opéra national de Bordeaux, Dutch National Opera, Nationale Reisopera and the Holland Festival. He has sung Schabernack (Ligeti’s Le Grand Macabre) for Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris.

Lessiter has a wide oratorio repertory and has appeared with the Gabrieli Consort at the Covent Garden and La Chaise-Dieu festivals, and in Venice.
