British soprano Melissa Alder is a member of the Royal Opera Chorus, which she joined in 2002. Her solo roles for The Royal Opera include Iris (Semele), Coryphée (Iphigénie en Tauride), Lay Sister (Suor Angelica) and Bridesmaid (Le nozze di Figaro). In the 2016/17 Season she sings Ines (Il trovatore).
Alder studied at Tring Park School for the Performing Arts and the Royal Academy of Music, and began her professional career singing with Opéra de Lyon. She was a member of Glyndebourne Festival Chorus for several seasons, sang Barena (Jenůfa) for Glyndebourne Festival and performed with Glyndebourne on Tour. She has also sung with the Berlin Philharmonic, at the Salzburg Festival, for Garsington Opera and has toured as Kate Pinkerton in Raymond Gubbay’s production of Madama Butterfly.
Television credits include on the ‘Maestro at the Opera’ series for the BBC.
