Swiss tenor Mauro Peter makes his Royal Opera debut in the 2017/18 Season as Tamino (Die Zauberflöte).
Peter sang with the Lucerne Boys’ Choir and went on to train at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich and the Bayerischen Theaterakademie August Everding. In 2012 he participated in the Salzburg Festival Young Singers Project, and that year won first prize in the Robert Schumann International Competition. He joined Zürich Opera House in the 2013/14 season, where his roles have included Eurimaco (Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria), Medoro (Orlando paladino), Alessandro (Il re pastore), Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni), Ferrando (Così fan tutte), Tamino, Jaquino (Fidelio), Sailor (Tristan und Isolde) and Andres (Wozzeck). Other engagements include Tamino for Bavarian State Opera, Opéra de Lyon and Paris Opéra, Ferrando for Bavarian State Opera, Belmonte (Die Entführung aus dem Serail) for La Scala, Milan, and Théâtre du Capitole, Toulouse, Apollo (Orfeo) for Munich Opera Festival, Alessandro for Komische Oper Berlin and Andres (Wozzeck) for Salzburg Festival.
Peter has performed in recital at venues including Vienna Musikverein and Konzerthaus, Graz Musikverein, deSingel in Antwerp, Zürich Opera House, Wigmore Hall, the Aix-en-Provence and Salzburg festivals and the Schubertiade in Hohenems. His recordings include Die schöne Müllerin (Wigmore Hall Live), Schubert’s Goethe Lieder and Lieder by Schumann.
