English technical manager Matthew Mulberry is a member of the Stage Technical Team at the Royal Opera House, specializing in lighting.
Mulberry studied theatre and entertainment lighting at City of Westminster College. He went on to work in the West End on and television before joining the Royal Opera House in 1994. He has worked closely with lighting designers and directors for numerous productions with The Royal Ballet and The Royal Opera. His collaborations on new opera productions include with Marco Marelli for La sonnambula, with Peter Mumford for The Bartered Bride, with Paule Constable for Le nozze di Figaro, with Robert Carsen and Peter Van Praet for Iphigénie en Tauride, Falstaff and Dialogues des Carmélites and with Adam Silverman for Andrea Chénier. In ballet he has collaborated for new productions with Jennifer Tipton for Jewels, Christopher Wheeldon and Natasha Katz for Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and The Winter’s Tale and Hugh Vanstone for Don Quixote, and in revival with David Finn for Giselle and Mark Henderson for Swan Lake. He has been lighting manager for revivals of Turandot, Ariadne auf Naxos, Madama Butterfly, Manon and La Fille mal gardée. He has supervised performances of La traviata and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by The Royal Opera and The Royal Ballet on tour in Japan, and of Andrea Chénier by the National Centre for the Performing Arts, Beijing.
Further work at the Royal Opera House includes creating the lighting design for the 2015 Jette Parker Young Artists Summer Performance, and working with Steven Nolan for the 2014 and 2015 BAFTA Award ceremonies.
