British tenor Mark Milhofer made his Royal Opera debut in July 2015 as Suweyleh (Cities of Salt) in the Linbury Studio Theatre and has since sung Momus/Jupiter/Old Woman (Rossi’s Orpheus) at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, Shakespeare’s Globe. In the 2017/18 Season he returns to sing Eumaeus (The Return of Ulysses) for The Royal Opera at the Roundhouse.

Milhofer was a choral scholar at Magdalen College, Oxford, before studying at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. After his performance as Giannetto (La gazza ladra) with British Youth Opera, he was invited to study in Italy with Renata Scotto and Leyla Gencer. He has since sung with English National Opera, Scottish Opera, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Stuttgart Opera and the opera houses of Naples, Turin, Bologna, Venice and Rome. Engagements include Bob Boles (Peter Grimes), Don Narciso (Il turco in Italia) and Karamazov (Solbiati’s Leggenda) for Teatro Regio di Torino, Taxis (Honegger’s Les Aventures du roi Pausole), Colin (Le Devin du village) and Lawyer (Punch and Judy) for Grand Théâtre de Genève, Bosco Nero (La vedova scaltra) and Prunier (La rondine) for La Fenice, Venice, Belmonte (Die Entführung aus dem Serail) for Salzburger Landestheater and Opéra de Rennes, Narraboth (Salome) for Teatro Comunale di Bologna and Ferrando (Così fan tutte) on tour in Beijing and Moscow. Milhofer regularly collaborates with contemporary composers and has created roles for Matteo D’Amica, Marcello Panni, Agostino Steffani and Marco Tutino, among others

Milhofer’s concert engagements have included Britten’s Serenade for Tenor, Horn and Strings with the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and in Parma, Carmina Burana at Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, Munich, in Saint Etienne and Zagreb and with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo and the Orchestra dell'Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Rossini’s Petite Messe solennelle at the Aldeburgh Festival and Judas Maccabeus with The King’s Consort at the BBC Proms. He has appeared in recital at the Queen Elizabeth, the Wigmore Hall and with I Pomeriggi Musicali in Milan.
