British mezzo-soprano Maria Brown makes her Royal Opera solo debut in the 2016/17 Season as an Apprentice (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg). She appears regularly with the Royal Opera Extra Chorus and has performed in Il trovatore, Manon Lescaut, Les Contes d’Hoffmann, The Nose and Norma, among others, as well as on tour to Japan in Macbeth and Mozart’s Requiem.
Brown studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and graduated with an MMus in opera. Her opera engagements include Mercédès (Carmen) for Scottish Opera Go Round, Carmen for Garden Opera, Madame Larina (Eugene Onegin) for Kentish Opera, Princess Marya (War and Peace) for RSAMD/Scottish Opera, Ernestina (Love’s Luggage Lost) for Minotaur Music and Carmelite (Dialogues des Carmélites) for Royal Scottish National Orchestra at Edinburgh Festival.
Roles for RSAMD include Marcellina (Le nozze di Figaro), Daumer’s Sister (Kaspar Hauser) and Dryad (Ariadne auf Naxos).
