Argentine tenor Marcelo Puente made his Royal Opera debut in the 2016/17 Season as Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly).

Puente studied at the Córdoba Conservatory and Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires.

Opera engagements include Don José (Carmen) for Deutsche Oper Berlin, Michigan Opera Theatre and with NHK Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo, and Charles Dutoit, Riccardo (Un ballo in maschera) for Teatro Colón, Pinkerton for La Monnaie, Brussels, Hamburg State Opera, Göteborg Opera and in Leipzig, Rodolfo (La bohème) in Stuttgart, the title role of Don Carlo for Prague State Opera, Cavaradossi (Tosca) for Canadian Opera Company, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, in Linz, Bucharest and for the St Margarethen Opera Festival, Cassio (Otello) for Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía, Valencia, Manrico (Il trovatore) in Toulon and Macduff (Macbeth) in Lima.
