Biography

Argentine tenor Marcelo Puente made his Royal Opera debut in the 2016/17 Season as Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly).

Puente studied at the Córdoba Conservatory and Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires. He has sung for opera companies including La Scala, Milan, Paris Opéra, Zürich Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Stuttgart State Opera, Semperoper Dresden, Hamburg State Opera, Prague State Opera, La Monnaie, Brussels, Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Michigan Opera Theatre, Washington National Opera, Opera Australia, Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires and the Canadian Opera Company, Vancouver Opera and at the Arena di Verona and Verbier Festivals. He has worked with many leading conductors including Dutoit, Gergiev and Pappano. 

Along with Pinkerton, Puente’s repertory includes Don José (Carmen), Faust, Count di Luna (Il trovatore), Riccardo (Un ballo in maschera), Don Carlos (Don Carlos), Don Alvaro (La forza del destino), Rodolfo (La bohème), Mario Cavaradossi (Tosca), Calaf (Turandot) and Maurizio (Adriana Lecouvreur).
