Maida Hundeling

Soprano

Biography

German soprano Maida Hundeling makes her Royal Opera debut in the 2018/19 Season as Helmwige (Die Walküre).

Hundeling was born in Tunisia and studied in Vienna. She was a member of the Eisenach Theatre 2001–3. She currently sings leading roles for opera companies in Germany, Eastern Europe and further afield. She has a regular association with the Slovak National Theatre, Bratislava, where she has sung roles including Turandot, Leonore (Fidelio) and Elsa (Lohengrin). Other selected appearances include Tosca for Brno National Theatre, Elsa for the National Theatre in Ostrava, Foreign Princess (Rusalka) for Houston Grand Opera, Aida for the Schweriner Schlossfestspiele, Tosca, Jenufa, Aida and Turandot at Hungary’s Bartók Plusz Operafesztivál and Brno National Theatre, Ellen Orford (Peter Grimes) in Hanover, Ariadne (Ariadne auf Naxos) in Nuremberg and Freiburg, Chrysothemis (Elektra) on tour in Italy, Giulietta (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) in Mannheim, Aida in Leipzig and Saarbrücken and Tosca, Salome and Giorgetta (Il tabarro) for Vienna Volksoper. She has also sung Senta (Der fliegende Holländer) for Opéra de Montréal, Salome for Edmonton Opera and Turandot with Utah Opera.

Hundeling’s concert appearances include a Wagner Gala with the Ostravian Philharmonic Orchestra, recitals of Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder in Germany, Mahler’s Symphony no.8 at the Festival Smetanova Litomyšl and Beethoven’s Symphony no.9 with the Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi.
