Croatian baritone Leon Košavić made his Royal Opera debut in the 2016/17 Season as Ping (Turandot).
Košavić studied at the Academy of Music, University of Zagreb, and made his professional debut with Croatian National Theatre. His awards include being named Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra’s Young Musician of the Year, first prize in the Emmerich Smola Award, Germany, third prize in the Mirjam Helin International Singing Competition, Finland, and reaching the finals of the Queen Sonja International Music Competition, Norway.
Košavić has sung widely in Croatia in roles including Masetto, Leporello and Don Giovanni (Don Giovanni), Dr Malatesta (Don Pasquale) and Rodolphe (Frédéric Verrières’s Mimi). Opera engagements elsewhere include Ping for Splitsko Ljeto Festival and Dr Malatesta and Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia) for Finnish National Opera.
