Hungarian-Canadian mezzo-soprano Krisztina Szabó makes her Royal Opera debut in the 2017/18 Season as Witness 2 / Singer 2 / Woman 2 (Lessons of Love and Violence, world premiere).
Szabó studied at the Western University and the Guildhall School of Music & Drama. She performs regularly for Canadian Opera Company, where her roles have included Thisbe (Pyramus and Thisbe), Clorinda (Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda), Ariana (L’Ariana), Idamante (Idomeneo), Nancy (Albert Herring), Wellgunde and Siegrune (Der Ring des Nibelungen) and Woman (Erwartung). Her other appearances in Canada include Angelina (La Cenerentola) and Giulietta (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) for Edmonton Opera, Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), Sesto (La clemenza di Tito) and Musetta (La bohème) for Vancouver Opera, Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia) for Opéra de Québec, Nerone (Agrippina) for Opéra de Montréal and Cherubino (Le nozze di Figaro) for Calgary Opera. International engagements include Cherubino, Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel) and Composer (Ariadne auf Naxos) in Klagenfurt, Judith (Bluebeard’s Castle) and Donna Elvira for Chicago Opera Theater and Rosalind (The Mines of Sulphur) for Wexford Festival Opera.
Szabó has in concert appeared with ensembles including Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, Early Music Vancouver, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Music of the Baroque, Chicago, Asociación Plural Ensemble, Madrid, and Ottawa Symphony Orchestra.
