American soprano Kristin Lewis makes her Royal Opera debut in the 2016/17 Season as Elizabeth of Valois (Don Carlo).
Lewis was born in Little Rock, Arkansas. She studied at the University of Central Arkansas and the University of Tennessee. Opera engagements include Mimì (La bohème) for Bavarian State Opera and La Fenice, Venice, Amelia (Un ballo in maschera) for Vienna State Opera, Aida for Vienna State Opera and Teatro di San Carlo, Naples, Ginevra (Giordano’s La cena delle beffe) and Bess (Porgy and Bess) for La Scala, Milan, Leonora (Il trovatore) for La Fenice, Elizabeth of Valois for Maggio Musicale, Florence, and Nedda (Pagliacci) for Royal Danish Opera. She performs widely in concert in Europe and the USA.
Lewis has been a finalist in many international competitions, and was a winner at the Gian Battista Viotti International Music Competition. She was named 2010 Artist of the Year by Savonlinna Opera Festival. In 2014 Lewis founded the Kristin Lewis Foundation to encourage talented musicians and encourage musical endeavours at all levels of performance.
