German costume designer Klaus Bruns makes his Royal Opera debut in the 2019/20 Season designing the costumes for Agrippina.
Bruns studied set and costume design at the Salzburg Mozarteum. He has designed for theatre companies including the Schaubühne Berlin, the Schauspielhaus Graz and the Thalia Theatre, Hamburg. In opera, he has worked for companies including the Bavarian State Opera, Hamburg State Opera, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Komische Oper Berlin, Berln State Opera, Theater an der Wien, Zürich Opera, Teatro Real, Madrid, and for the Bayreuth Festival. For Kosky he has designed costumes for Anatevka [Fiddler on the Roof], Candide, Eugene Onegin and Rusalka (Komische Oper Berlin), Macbeth and La fanciulla del West (Zürich Opera), The Fiery Angel (Bavarian State Opera) and Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg (Bayreuth Festival). He also collaborates regularly with Christof Loy (including costume designs for Capriccio, Le nozze di Figaro and the world premiere of Scartazzini’s Edward II) and Damiano Michieletto (including costume designs for Cendrillon, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and La donna del lago).
Other selected costume designs include the world premiere of Holliger’s Lunea for Andreas Homoki for Zürich Opera.
