German designer Katrin Lea Tag makes her Royal Opera debut in the 2017/18 Season on Carmen, directed by Barrie Kosky.
Tag grew up in Berlin and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna. She works regularly with Kosky, credits including L’Orfeo, L’incoronazione di Poppea, Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria, The Fair at Sorochintsï and Les Contes d’Hoffmann (Komische Oper Berlin), Castor et Pollux (Komische Oper Berlin, English National Opera and in Lille and Dijon), Saul (Glyndebourne Festival), Duke Bluebeard’s Castle and Dido and Aeneas (Frankfurt Opera and Edinburgh Festival), Carmen (Frankfurt Opera) and Armide (Dutch National Opera). Her other opera designs include sets for Ariadne auf Naxos (Berlin State Opera, directed by Hans Neuenfels), sets and costumes for Jephtha (Dutch National Opera, directed by Claus Guth), and costumes for Die Entführung aus dem Serail and Der Freischütz (Berlin State Opera, directed by Michael Thalheimer).
Tag works prolifically in theatre, her credits with Thalheimer including productions for Deutsches Theater Berlin, Thalia Theater, Vienna Burgtheater (including an acclaimed production of Elfriede Jelinek’s Die Schutzbefohlenen), Königlichen Dramatischen Theater in Stockholm and Schauspiel Frankfurt. Further credits include at the 2005 Ruhrtriennale.
