Julia Backhaus

Architect

Biography

Architect Julia Backhaus made her Royal Ballet debut in the 2016/17 Season on a programme of new works by Charlotte Edmonds and Robert Binet.

Backhaus graduated with Distinction in Munich, and also holds a master’s degree in architectural design with Distinction from the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London. Her work explores the interplay between science, health and architecture, and her experience ranges from heart clinic design in sub-Saharan Africa to residential projects, competitions and installations. As an award-winning architect, she has more than fifteen years’ experience gained in Germany, France and the UK, where she founded the London design studio Fluxarchitects.

Since 2011 Backhaus has been the MArch Director for the internationally renowned Professional Architecture Programme at the Bartlett School of Architecture, where she also teaches a Design studio.
