Biography

Director and Movement Director Josie Daxter makes her Royal Opera debut in the 2018/19 Season as the movement director for The Monstrous Child in the Linbury Theatre. Daxter has collaborated with Simon McBurney as Revival Director for The Magic Flute (Dutch National Opera, Amsterdam, English National Opera, Aix-en-Provence Festival), Revival Director and performer for A Dog’s Heart (Dutch National Opera, English National Opera, La Scala, Milan, Opéra de Lyon), and Assistant Director for The Rake’s Progress (Dutch National Opera and Aix-enProvence Festival).

She trained as an actor at East 15 and École Philippe Gaulier. Her theatre credits as a performer include Laika (Unicorn Theatre), Mission Drift (National Theatre), The Master and Margarita (Complicité), The Trial of Ubu (Kate Mitchell, Hampstead Theatre), A Woman Killed with Kindness (Katie Mitchell, National Theatre), Frankenstein (Danny Boyle, National Theatre), My Mother Said I Never Should (Dukes, Lancaster), 1984 and Low Life (Blind Summit Theatre) and His Dark Materials (Birmingham Rep/West Yorkshire Playhouse). Movement Direction credits include Why is the Sky Blue? (Southwark Playhouse) and James and the Giant Peach (West Yorkshire Playhouse).
