Ballet mistress and teacher Jacquelin Barrett is assistant to Royal Ballet Artistic Associate Christopher Wheeldon, a position she has held since 2009. Her work with Wheeldon for the Company has included on Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Aeternum, The Winter’s Tale and Strapless. She has staged Wheeldon’s work for companies around the world, including for the National Ballet of Canada, San Francisco Ballet and Dutch National Ballet. She is private coach to Royal Ballet Principal Lauren Cuthbertson.
Barrett trained at The Royal Ballet School and graduated into London Festival Ballet (now English National Ballet), dancing principal roles with the company before focussing on teaching. She has worked as ballet mistress for Central School of Ballet, Northern Ballet Theatre and English National Ballet. Barrett taught at The Royal Ballet School 1997–2009, working principally with the graduate female class. In addition to their productions for The Royal Ballet, Barrett’s work with Wheeldon has included on the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics.
Barrett has worked internationally as a guest teacher with companies including Birmingham Royal Ballet, Rambert Dance Company, the National Ballet of Canada and in Australia and Japan.
