Biography

Italian tenor Ivan Magrì made his Royal Opera debut in 2017 as Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore). He returns in the 2017/18 Season to sing the Duke of Mantua (Rigoletto).

Magrì was born in Catania. He studied at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan and with Luciano Pavarotti. He has won competitions including the Riccardo Zandonai International Competition.

Opera engagements include Werther for Hungarian State Opera, Manrico (Il trovatore) in Cagliari, Rodolfo (La bohème) for Hamburg State Opera and in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Bari, Alfredo Germont (La traviata) for Savonlinna Opera Festival, Berlin State Opera and in Cagliari, Valencia and Florence, Duke of Mantua for Deutsche Oper Berlin and Hamburg State Opera, Rome Opera and in Budapest and Florence, Nemorino for Teatro Colón, Buenos Aires, Edgardo (Lucia di Lammermoor) in Lima, Rodolfo (Luisa Miller) in Hamburg and Zürich, Arturo (I puritani) in Bratislava, Camille de Rosillon (Die lustige Witwe) for Teatro Regio, Turin, and Gabriele Adorno (Simon Boccanegra) in Valencia.
