Biography

Chinese mezzo-soprano Hongni Wu is a former member of the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme (2018–2020) and has since made a number of debuts, including Der Komponist (Ariadne auf Naxos) for Opera National de Montpellier, Angelina (La Cenerentola) for Teatro Carlo Felice, Genoa, Dorabella (Così fan tutte) for Pacific Opera Victoria, Comrade Chin and Shu Fung (M. Butterfly) for Santa Fe Opera, Bao Chai (Dream of the Red Chamber) for San Francisco Opera and a return to the Royal Opera House for Kuchtík (Rusalka), under Semyon Bychkov. 2023/24 Season engagements include Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia) for Macau International Music Festival and Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Kuchtík for Opera Royal de Wallonie-Liège and her Royal Danish Theatre debut as Suzuki (Madama Butterfly). Concert engagements have included Mahler’s Symphony no.3 with the Philharmonia Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall and a national tour of China as a soloist in Tan Dun’s Buddha Passion.
