Herbert Murauer

Austrian designer Herbert Murauer made his Royal Opera debut in 2002 creating set and costume designs for Ariadne auf Naxos, directed by Christof Loy. He has since returned to create designs for Lucia di Lammermoor and Lulu, also directed by Loy, and for La finta giardiniera, directed by Annika Haller.

Murauer studied at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst Mozarteum in Salzburg and worked as an assistant for Stuttgart State Theatre before becoming a freelance designer. He first collaborated with Loy in 1998 on Le nozze di Figaro for La Monnaie, Brussels, and they have since worked together on numerous productions. Murauer has also designed many productions for the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, including Die Zauberflöte, Il turco in Italia, Cavalleria rusticana and Pagliacci.

Engagements elsewhere include with the Liceu, Barcelona, Hamburg State Opera, Frankfurt Opera, Bavarian State Opera, Royal Swedish Opera and Den Jyske Opera, Denmark.
