Herbert Murauer

Biography

Austrian designer Herbert Murauer’s designs for Christof Loy’s production of Ariadne auf Naxos. Murauer has also designed sets for Lulu and sets and costumes for Lucia di Lammermoor for The Royal Opera, both for productions by Loy.

Murauer studied at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst Mozarteum in Salzburg and worked as an assistant for Stuttgart State Theatre before becoming a freelance designer. He first worked with Christof Loy in 1998 on Le nozze di Figaro (La Monnaie, Brussels) and they have since regularly collaborated. Murauer has designed many productions for the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, ranging from Die Zauberflöte and Il turco in Italia to Cavalleria rusticana and Pagliacci. He has also worked with companies including Liceu, Barcelona, Hamburg State Opera, Frankfurt Opera, Bavarian State Opera and Royal Swedish Opera.

For Christof Loy he has designed sets and costumes for most of Mozart’s operas. In 2013 he worked with Giordano Bellincampi, designing Tosca for Den Jyske Opera, Denmark.
