Biography

Japanese pianist Haruka Kawaguchi joined The Royal Ballet in the 2023/2024 season. Born in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Haruka later moved to Tokyo to study at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music, focusing on classical piano, jazz, and composition. She graduated as the valedictorian and won several piano competitions during her time at the college, where she completed both BA and MA degrees. 

In Japan, Haruka’s professional experience included positions with The Tokyo Ballet, Tokyo City Ballet, Asami Maki Ballet Tokyo, and Tani Momoko Ballet. In 2019, she moved to the UK to attend Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance. Under the tutelage of Deniz Gelenbe, she earned a professional certificate with Distinction in performance.

In the UK, Haruka’s journey continued as a freelance pianist. She contributed to English National Ballet, London Studio Centre, Young Dancers Academy, and West London School of Dance, among others, before her affiliation with The Royal Ballet.
