Georg Zlabinger

Biography

Austrian director Georg Zlabinger makes his Royal Opera debut in the 2018/19 Season as Associate Director for La forza del destino.

Zlabinger studied Comparative Literature Studies, German philology and Austrian Studies at the University of Vienna. He is a staff director at Theater an der Wien, where he has worked with directors including Keith Warner, Torsten Fischer, Tatjana Gürbaca, Roland Geyer, Jonathan Meese and Christiane Lutz. He has worked as an assistant director for Wiener Festwochen, Bregenz Festival, Berlin Festival and Dutch National Opera, Amsterdam. In recent years he has developed a close artistic relationship with Christof Loy. In the 2018/19 Season he assists Loy on productions of Tosca (Finnish National Opera, Helsinki), Euryanthe (Theater an der Wien) and Capriccio (Teatro Real, Madrid).

Zlabinger’s directorial credits include Die letzten Tage (Ateliertheater, Vienna), Zu dir zu gehen (Brick-5, Vienna) and Die Orestie, Medea and Namenlos (Theater/Akg Vienna). In 2018 he staged the premiere of his play O schweigt in Vienna.
