Biography

British costume designer Gabrielle Dalton makes her Royal Opera debut in the 2017/18 Season designing costumes for Coraline at the Barbican. Her previous work at the Royal Opera House includes Magical Night and The Red Balloon for Aletta Collins in the Linbury Studio Theatre for ROH2.

Dalton studied at Middlesex Polytechnic London University, graduating with a Diploma in Dramatic Art. She has designed costumes for many productions at Opera North, including La Cenerentola, La fanciulla del West, La Voix humaine and Dido and Aeneas (for Aletta Collins), and Little Greats, Cavalleria rusticana, Pagliacci, Trial by Jury, Le nozze di Figaro, Joshua and Carmen. Other opera work includes Der Ring des Nibelungen and Don Giovanni (Nationale Reisopera), Falstaff (Vienna State Opera), Fiddler on the Roof, Don Quichotte, Don Carlos and Idomeneo (Grange Park Opera), Rusalka (Scottish Opera, Grange Park Opera) and Carmen (Salzburg Easter Festival with Aletta Collins).

Dalton has also designed costumes for theatre productions including Joe Turner’s Come and Gone (Young Vic), A Doll’s House (Duke of York’s Theatre, London, and tour to Brooklyn Academy, New York) and The Haunting of Hill House (Everyman Playhouse).
