British musician and composer Frank Moon has collaborated several times with choreographer Arthur Pita, including for, at the Royal Opera House, The Metamorphosis (ROH2, 2011 and 2013) and The World’s Greatest Show (2014). Moon’ s other credits at the Royal Opera House include Musical Director for Whelan/Watson: Other Stories in the Linbury Studio Theatre for The Royal Ballet. In the 2017/18 Season he creates a new score for Arthur Pita’s new work for The Royal Ballet, The Wind.
Moon was raised in Cornwall and trained at Birmingham Conservatoire. His work in theatre and dance includes original music for I Was a Rat and The BFG (Birmingham Repertory Theatre), Hag (The Wrong Crowd) and Visitors (Up in Arms). His other collaborations with Pita include The Little Match Girl (Jerwood DanceHouse and Sadler’s Wells), Facada (Segerstrom Center for the Arts, California, Stanislavsky Theatre, Moscow, and London Coliseum), Utopia (International Dance Festival Birmingham) and God’s Garden (revival tour). He was nominated for a Paul Hamlyn Foundation Composers’ Award in 2014.
Moon has toured widely as an oud and guitar player, performing regularly with such artist as Cerys Matthews, The Destroyers and Mediaeval Baebes. He was a founder member of the Urban Folk Quartet, with which he toured widely and released four albums.
