Biography

Born in Uruguay, Erwin Schrott won the First and Audience prizes in Operalia (1998). For The Royal Opera he has sung Méphistophélès (Faust), Procida (Les vêpres siciliennes), Banquo, Mozart’s Figaro, Leporello, Baron Scarpia (Tosca)  and Don Giovanni. Recent appearances elsewhere have included Procida (Bayerische Staatsoper, Copenhagen), Mozart’s Count Almaviva (Vienna State Opera, Budapest), Scarpia (Deutsche Oper Berlin, Vienna, Berlin State Opera, Liceu, Barcelona), Enrico VIII in Anna Bolena (Royal Opera House of Muscat, Opéra Royal de Wallonie-Liège), Mefistofele (Munich, Chorégies d’Orange), Escamillo (Cologne, Vienna, Arena di Verona), Méphistophélès (Vienna, Teatro Real, Madrid), Don Giovanni (Berlin State Opera, Theater an der Wien), Leporello (Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco, Vienna), the Four Villains in Les contes d’Hoffmann (Amsterdam) and Alidoro in La Cenerentola (La Scala, Munich). As exclusive recording artist for Sony, his solo recordings include a disc of Latin American music (Rojotango) and a disc of bass arias. Plans include L'elisir d’amore (Vienna), Il turco in Italia and Les contes d'Hoffmann (Hamburg), Carmen (Vienna, Graz, Munich) and Tosca (Baden- Baden, Hamburg, Gstaad).
