Japanese soprano Eri Nakamura sings Liù in Turandot for The Royal Opera in the 2013/14 Season. A Jette Parker Young Artist for The Royal Opera from 2008 to 2010, her roles for the Company have included Sophie (Werther), Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro, under Colin Davis), Musetta (La bohème), Giulietta (I Capuleti e I Montecchi, stepping in at very short notice for Anna Netrebko), Giannetta (L'elisir d'amore) and Frasquita (Carmen).
Nakamura first wanted to be a music teacher and studied piano and trombone; it was not until a school performance of Beethoven's Symphony no.9 that she discovered her vocation as a singer. She studied at Osaka College of Music and the Opera Studio at Tokyo New National Theatre, before joining Opera Studio Nederland in the 2006/7 season. She is currently a member of the Bavarian State Opera, which she joined in September 2010 on graduating from the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme. Nakamura continues to have engagements all over the world with leading theatres and orchestras such as Deutsche Oper Berlin, Teatro Municipal de Santiago, Washington National Opera, Orchestre National de France and NHK Symphony Orchestra, among others.
Nakamura was a finalist in the 2009 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition and a Song Prize finalist. Her recent concert performances have included Rossini's Stabat Mater under Nézet-Séguin, Bruckner's Te Deum and a Rosenblatt recital at the Wigmore Hall.
