Albanian mezzo-soprano Enkelejda Shkosa made her Royal Opera debut in 1997 as Maddalena (Rigoletto) and has since sung Dorabella (Così fan tutte, Shaftesbury Theatre), Suzuki (Madama Butterfly), Paulina (The Queen of Spades) and the Contessa d’Arco (Matilde di Shabran) for the Company. In the 2014/15 Season she returns to sing Suzuki and Hedwige (Guillaume Tell).

Shkosa was born in Tirana and studied there and at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi, Milan. In 1995 she won first prize in the International Leyla Gencer Competition. Shkosa has since performed with the world's leading opera companies, including the Metropolitan Opera, New York, La Scala, Milan, Paris Opéra, Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris, La Monnaie, Brussels, Dresden Semperoper, Vienna State Opera, Teatro Real, Madrid, Opéra national du Rhin, Teatro di San Carlo, Genoa, and Monte Carlo Opera.

Shkosa’s wide repertory includes Angelina (La Cenerentola), Isabella (L’italiana in Algeri), Sara di Nottingham (Roberto Devereux), Romeo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi), Azucena (Il trovatore), Preziosilla (La forza del destino), Eboli (Don Carlo), Amneris (Aida), Emilia (Otello), Meg Page and Mistress Quickly (Falstaff), Marguerite (La Damnation de Faust), Carmen, Giulietta (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) and Charlotte (Werther). Her concert repertory ranges from Gluck to Prokofiev and she has recorded for labels including Opera Rara and LSO Live.
