Edmond Choo

Biography

Australian tenor Edmond Choo makes his Royal Opera solo debut in the 2016/17 Season as an Apprentice (Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg). Previous work with The Royal Opera includes singing with the Royal Opera Extra Chorus.

Choo graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts in 2008 and joined Opera Australia’s chorus, where he performed and covered roles including Hadji (Lakmé) and Faninal’s Major-Domo (Der Rosenkavalier). He moved to the UK in 2011 and since then has performed with companies including Welsh National Opera, English National Opera, Grange Park Opera and Opera Holland Park. He was a semi-finalist in the 2013 Kathleen Ferrier Awards.

In 2015 Choo sang Arturo (I puritani) for WNO, replacing an indisposed Barry Banks. For WNO he has also performed and covered the roles of Sergeant Snell (In Parenthesis), Pirelli (Sweeney Todd), Arnold (Guillaume Tell), Naked Youth (Moses und Aron) and Lord Percy (Anna Bolena).
