Biography

Scottish bass Donaldson Bell is a member of the Royal Opera Chorus, which he joined in 1978.

Bell was born in Ayrshire and studied at the then Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. He has appeared in recital and as an oratorio soloist throughout Britain and abroad.

Bell’s many solo roles for The Royal Opera have included Brühlmann (Werther), Footman (Der Rosenkavalier), Guard (Manon), Trojan (Idomeneo), Gondolier and Priest (Death in Venice), Nightwatchman (Die Frau ohne Schatten), Apparition (Macbeth), Pontius Pilate (The Pilgrim’s Progress), Crony (Paul Bunyan), Messenger (La traviata) and Workman (Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk). He has also sung in Mr Worldly Wise for The Royal Ballet.
