Biography

Greek baritone Dionysios Sourbis made his Royal Opera debut in the 2013/14 Season as Ping (Turandot) and has since sung Schaunard (La bohème) and Silvio (Pagliacci) for The Royal Opera.
Sourbis was born on Zakynthos and first studied with George Samartzis. He won the 2005 Maria Callas Scholarship and moved to Italy to continue his studies with Claude Thiolas. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including first prizes in the Iris Adami Corradetti Competition, the Pertile-Martinelli Competition (where he also was awarded the Audience Prize) and the Spiros Argiris Competition and second prize in the Bellini Competition. He also won the Treviso Toti dal Monte Competition for his performance of Ford (Falstaff) in Treviso.
His roles with Greek National Opera include Marcello (La bohème), Giorgio Germont (La traviata), Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Belcore (L’elisir d’amore), Silvio, Lescaut (Manon Lescaut) and Valentin (Faust), and he has sung Don Giovanni at the Herodeon, Athens, and in many opera houses around Italy. Other engagements include with such opera houses as La Fenice, Venice, Teatro Regio, Turin, and Opera di Roma.
