Greek baritone Dionysios Sourbis makes his debut with The Royal Opera in the 2013/14 Season, singing Ping in Turandot.
Born on the island of Zakynthos, Sourbis studied first with George Samartzis, before winning the Maria Callas scholarship in 2005 and moving to Italy, where he continued his studies with Claude Thiolas. He is the recipient of numerous awards, including first prizes in the Iris Adami Corradetti Competition,the Pertile-Martinelli Competition (where he also was awarded the audience prize) and the Spiros Argiris Competition and second prize in the Bellini Competition. He also won the Treviso Toti dal Monte Competition for his performance of Ford (Falstaff) in Treviso.
His roles with Greek National Opera include Marcello (La bohème), Giorgio Germont (La traviata), Figaro (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Belcore (L'elisir d'amore), Silvio (Pagliacci), Lescaut (Manon Lescaut) and Valentin (Faust). Other performances include Marcello with Teatro Malibran at La Fenice, Venice.
