Danielle Urbas

Biography

British actor and choreographer Danielle Urbas made her Royal Opera debut in the 2017/18 Season as Assistant and subsequently Revival Movement Director for Richard Jones’s production of La bohème. She returns in the 2018/19 Season as Revival Movement Director for Boris Godunov.

Urbas trained as an actor at Drama Centre London. She regularly assisted Oliver Mears when he was Artistic Director of NI Opera, including on Macbeth, Don Giovanni, Powder Her Face, Der fliegende Holländer, Così fan tutte and Salome, and has also worked with Mears on productions including The Turn of the Screw (Novaya Opera, Moscow) and Eugene Onegin (Scottish Opera). She has also worked as an assistant to director-designer Antony McDonald and to Ashley Page, Adele Thomas and Daniel Slater. Her directing credits include Zátopek for Second Movement Opera, Awa’s Journey for Union Dance Company and Einstein’s Dreams for Tête à Tête.

Urbas has revived the movement direction for Richard Jones’s production of La bohème for performances at Teatro Real, Madrid, and with Lyric Opera of Chicago.
