Danielle de Niese

Australian-American soprano Danielle de Niese made her Royal Opera debut in the 2008/9 Season as Galatea (Acis and Galatea) and returned in the 2017/18 Season as Musetta (La bohème). 

De Niese was born in Melbourne and aged nine won the Australian television competition Young Talent Time. Her family later moved to Los Angeles, where she became a guest host for L.A. Kids. She was the youngest singer to participate in the Young Artists’ Studio at the Metropolitan Opera, New York, and made her Metropolitan Opera debut as Barbarina (Le nozze di Figaro) aged 19. Subsequent roles for the company include Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare in Egitto) and Despina (Così fan tutte). Engagements elsewhere include Cleopatra, Poppea (L’incoronazione di Poppea), Norina (Don Pasquale), Child (L’Enfant et les sortilèges), Concepcion (L’Heure espagnole) and Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia) for Glyndebourne Festival, Susanna for Hamburg State Opera, Poppea for Liceu, Barcelona, Calisto (La Calisto) for Bavarian State Opera, Norina for Vienna State Opera, Partenope for San Francisco Opera, Anne Trulove (The Rake’s Progress) for Teatro Regio, Turin, Roxane Coss (Jimmy López’s Bel Canto, world premiere) for Lyric Opera of Chicago, Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) for Semperoper Dresden and Hanna Glawari (Die lustige Witwe) for Opera Australia. 

De Niese performs internationally in concert and recital. Her discography includes four solo albums for Decca.
