American translator Damion Searls made his Royal Opera debut in 2015 as English translator for Morgen und Abend.
Searls was born and raised in New York. He has translated 25 books from German, French, Dutch and Norwegian into English. These include three novels by Jon Fosse – Melancholy (translated with Grethe Kvernes), Aliss at the Fire and Morning and Evening – and works by Elfriede Jelinek, Hermann Hesse, Friedrich Nietzsche, Marcel Proust, Rainer Maria Rilke and Christa Wolf.
Searls is the author of three books, including a history of the Rorschach test and biography of its creator, Hermann Rorschach.
