Daichi Ikarashi

First Artist of The Royal Ballet

Biography

Japanese dancer Daichi Ikarashi is a First Artist of The Royal Ballet. He joined The Royal Ballet as an Aud Jebsen Young Dancer from the start of the 2020/21 Season and entered the Company as an Artist in the 2022/23 Season and was promoted First Artist in 2023.

Ikarashi began his training at the Niigita Ballet School before attending and graduating from The Royal Ballet School. He won the Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP) Hope Award in 2013, the April Olrich Award for Dynamic Performance in 2016, the Gailene Stock Award in 2019 and in 2020 he was awarded the London Ballet Circle Dame Ninette Award. 

Performances during his time as a student include in Ashton’s Rhapsody and the pas de trois in Paquita. Ikarashi also had the opportunity to perform the role of the Frog in Liam Scarlett’s The Cunning Little Vixen at the Royal Opera House. 

With the Company, his roles include Jester (Cinderella), Mandolin Dancer (Romeo and Juliet) and in Anemoi. He created a role in Kyle Abraham's The Weathering
