Cornelius Meister

Biography

German conductor Cornelius Meister makes his Royal Opera debut in the 2013/14 Season conducting La bohème. He is currently Chief Conductor and Artistic Director of the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Meister's recent operatic appearances have included Die Zauberflöte (Vienna State Opera), Lulu (Semperoper Dresden), Salome (Opernhaus Zürich) and Der Ring des Nibelungen (Riga). He appears in concerts with leading orchestras worldwide, including, in the UK, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra; in the USA, National Symphony Orchestra, Washington, and Baltimore Symphony Orchestra; and in Europe the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Ensemble Intercontemporain, the Orchestra of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Tonhalle Orchestra Zürich, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, German Symphony Orchestra, Berlin, NDR Symphony Orchestra, Hamburg, and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra.

He was General Music Director of the City of Heidelberg 2005–12, becoming the youngest general music director in Europe. He is a prizewinner both as a pianist and as a conductor and has received prizes for his programming and his education projects.
