German actor Christoph Quest created the speaking role of the Major Domo in Christof Loy’s production of Ariadne auf Naxos for The Royal Opera in 2002 and returned to play the role in the 2004, 2008, 2014 and 2015 revivals.
Quest was born in Berlin and grew up in Bavaria. He studied at the Otto Falckenberg School in Munich and has since appeared in theatres around Germany and Switzerland, including the Schiller Theatre, Freie Volksbühne Berlin, Thalia Theatre, Hamburg Deutsches Shauspielhaus, the Düsseldorf Schauspielhaus and the Zürich Schauspielhaus, and on television and film. His repertory includes the title roles in Othello, George Dandin, Faust and Nathan der Weise, Prospero (The Tempest), Bernick (The Pillars of Society) and Helmer (A Doll’s House). Quest began working in opera in 1999 and has appeared at La Monnaie, Brussels, Liceu, Barcelona, Berlin State Opera, Frakfurt Opera and in Geneva. In addition to his role as the Major Domo, opera credits include Pasha Selim (Loy’s production of Die Entführung aus dem Serail) and Violinist (Guillaume Bernardi’s production of Neikrug’s Through Roses).
Quest’s volume of poetry Das Morgentur was published in 1996 and his plays Um Zug Um Zug and Tunnel Dasein have been performed in Düsseldorf.
