Swiss dramaturg Christian Longchamp makes his Royal Opera debut in the 2017/18 Season as dramaturg for From the House of the Dead.
Longchamp studied art history and philosophy in Geneva and at the Sorbonne in Paris. He began his career organizing exhibitions about contemporary artists and filmmakers. He was a Curator at the Auditorium of the Louvre Museum (2004-7), Artistic Advisor, Dramaturg and Head of Publications for La Monnaie, Brussels (2007-14) and a Dramaturg and Head of Publications for Paris Opéra (2014-15). He is currently an Artistic Advisor and Dramaturg for Opéra national du Rhin, Strasbourg. He has been the dramaturg for several of Krzysztof Warlikowski's productions including Don Carlos, Duke Bluebeard's Castle and La Voix humaine (Opéra national de Paris), Lulu, Don Giovanni and Cherubini's Médée (La Monnaie, Brussels), L'incoronazione di Poppea (Teatro Real, Madrid), Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno (Aix-en-Provence Festival) and Wozzeck (Dutch National Opera).
Longchamp has also been dramaturg for Alvis Hermanis's productions of La Damnation de Faust (Paris Opéra) and Jenufa (La Monnaie) and for Romeo Castellucci's productions of Orfeo ed Euridice (Wienerfestwochen and La Monnaie), Moses und Aron (Paris Opéra) and Schwanengesang D744 based on Lieder by Schubert (Avignon Festival).
