Israeli soprano Chen Reiss makes her Royal Opera debut in the 2017/18 Season as Zerlina (Don Giovanni).
Reiss sings regularly with Vienna State Opera, where her many roles include Morgana (Alcina), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier), Ilia (Idomeneo), Servilia (La clemenza di Tito), Marzelline (Fidelio), Adina (L’elisir d’amore), Zdenka (Arabella) and the Vixen (The Cunning Little Vixen). She has also appeared for companies including Bavarian State Opera, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, La Scala, Milan, Semperoper Dresden, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Hamburg State Opera, Dutch National Opera, Opera Philadelphia, Florida Grand Opera, Israeli Opera and for the Maggio Musicale Festival, Florence, and Wiener Festwochen.
Reiss’s numerous concert appearances include a gala concert at Suntory Hall in Tokyo with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and Zubin Mehta, Mahler’s Symphony no.4 and Berg’s Sieben frühe Lieder with the Munich Symphony Orchestra and with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and Daniele Gatti and concerts with the Orchestre de Paris, Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, Salzburg Mozarteum Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, among others. She performed for Pope Francis during the 2014 Christmas Mass, broadcast worldwide. Her recordings include Liaisons, winner of the Diapason d’Or, and Le Rossignol et la rose.
