Spanish baritone Carlos Chausson made his Royal Opera debut in 2013 singing Doctor Bartolo (Le nozze di Figaro).
Chausson was born in Zaragoza and studied at the Escola Superior de Canto de Madrid and in the USA, completing a Masters degree at the University of Michigan. He began his career in the USA, returning to Europe in the 1980s and going onto sing at opera houses including the Vienna State Opera, Liceu, Barcelona, and La Scala, Milan. He has established a particularly close relationship with Zürich Opera. Awards include the Oviedo Teatro Campoamor Best Male Singer Prize.
He is best known for his buffo (Italian comic) roles and has sung Mozart’s Doctor Bartolo for companies including Zürich Opera, San Diego Opera, Paris Opéra, and Deutsche Oper Berlin. His other roles include Taddeo (L'italiana in Algeri), Don Magnifico (La Cenerentola), the title role in Don Pasquale and Dulcamara (L'elisir d'amore).
