South Korean bass-baritone ByeongMin Gil joins the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme in the 2019/20 Season. This Season he sings Brühlmann (Werther), Youth, Lido Boatman and Waiter (Death in Venice), Marquis D’Obigny (La traviata), Second Prisoner (Fidelio) and Flemish Deputy (Don Carlo) with The Royal Opera.
Gil studied at the Sunhwa Arts School, Sunhwa Arts High School and Seoul National University College of Music. He also attended the Oxford Lieder Festival residential course, participating in masterclasses with Wolfgang Holzmair, John Mark Ainsley, Roger Vignoles and Sholto Kynoch. He has given recitals at YeongSan Art Hall, Kukje Art Hall in Seoul and the Oxford Lieder Festival. His opera appearances include Monterone (Rigoletto) at the Maggio Musicale, Florence.
Gil’s competition successes include First Prizes in the Opera Crown International Opera Competition in Tbilisi, Otto Edelmann International Competition in Vienna, Monte Carlo Voice Masters, Toulouse International Singing Competition, Korea National Opera Competition, Dong-A Music Competition, Gwang-ju Voice Competition and Dae-gu Voice Competition, and Second Prize in the Viotti International Singing Competition.
