American tenor Bryan Hymel made his Royal Opera debut in 2010 as Don José (Carmen) and has since sung Prince (Rusalka), Aeneas (Les Troyens), the title role of Robert le diable and Henri (Les Vêpres siciliennes) for The Royal Opera. In the 2015/16 Season he returns to sing Don José.

Hymel grew up in New Orleans and as a child learnt piano and trumpet. He originally planned to become a Broadway conductor until his choir director suggested opera. He went on to study at Loyola University and the Academy of Vocal Arts, Philadelphia, and has since sung for the world's leading opera houses. Alongside his opera performances, Hymel enjoys recital work and regularly performs in concert. He is the recipient of the Metropolitan Opera's 2013 Beverly Sills Award and in 2013 he was awarded the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in Opera for his performances as Prince, Aeneas and Robert with The Royal Opera.
